Choose a two-wheeler for the trips you make
Look at the model, registration year, kilometres and asking price. For your daily route, think about seat height, weight and how easily you can handle the vehicle at low speed. Budget for tyres or servicing if it needs work.
Ask the seller about its history
Confirm where you can see it and ask about service bills, repairs and modifications. For a petrol model, ask whether it is hard to start when cold. For an electric model, ask how far the seller typically rides on one charge and what that ride is like.
Inspect it before a test ride
Check the tyres, brakes, lights and frame. If you see damage or hear an unfamiliar sound, ask a mechanic to take a look. Take a short test ride only with the seller’s permission and where you can ride safely.
Check the papers before you pay
Match the vehicle and registered owner to the registration certificate (RC). Check the insurance and pollution certificate where applicable. Ask whether there’s still a loan on the vehicle. Ask the RTO what papers you’ll need to transfer ownership.
Record the agreed price and keep proof of payment. Inspect the vehicle and confirm that the seller can sell it before paying an advance.
Selling your bike or scooter?
Photograph both sides, the odometer and any damage. Include the make, model, registration year, kilometres, asking price and where it can be seen. Mention known faults. For an electric model, say whether the charger is included.
