ખરીદી નક્કી કરતાં પહેલાં સાધન ચાલુ કરીને બતાવવા કહો. ફ્રિજમાં ઠંડક, દરવાજાની રબર અને અસામાન્ય અવાજ તપાસો. વોશિંગ મશીનમાં શક્ય હોય તો કપડાં ધોવાની અને નિચોવવાની પ્રક્રિયા બતાવવા કહો; પાણી ટપકે છે કે વધારે ધ્રૂજે છે તે તપાસો. મિક્સર કે ઓવનમાં બટન અને સાથે મળતા ભાગ તપાસો. સલામત હોય તો મિક્સર બરાબર પીસે છે કે ઓવનમાં વસ્તુ બરાબર ગરમ થાય છે તે બતાવવા કહો.
કેટલું જૂનું છે, શા માટે વેચે છે અને કઈ મરામત કે ભાગ બદલાયા છે તે પૂછો. દેખાતું નુકસાન, કાટ, ખૂટતા ભાગ અને ખરાબ પ્લગ કે વાયર જુઓ. જોખમી મરામત જાતે ન કરો. હાલત વિશે ખાતરી ન હોય તો પૈસા આપતાં પહેલાં સાધનના મરામતકાર પાસે તપાસ કરાવો.
લેવા જતાં પહેલાં આખો ખર્ચ જાણી લો
સાધનનું માપ, ઘરમાં રાખવાની જગ્યા અને દરવાજા, દાદર કે લિફ્ટમાંથી લઈ જવાનો રસ્તો માપો. જોડાણ કોણ છૂટું પાડશે, કોણ ઊંચકશે અને વાહન કોણ લાવશે તે પૂછો. ગોઠવવાનો કે મરામતનો ખર્ચ પણ ગણો. મોટાં કે જોડીને રાખેલાં સાધન કાઢવા અને ગોઠવવા જાણકારની મદદ જરૂરી થઈ શકે છે.

રૂબરૂ જોવા કે લેવા આવવાનો વિસ્તાર, માળ અને લિફ્ટની માહિતી આપો. શક્ય હોય ત્યારે ખરીદનારને ચાલુ કરીને જોવા દો. સાધન કાઢવાની અને વાહનની વાત સામાન આપતાં પહેલાં કરો. વસ્તુ લઈ જાય તે પહેલાં તમારા ખાતામાં પૈસા મળ્યા છે તે તપાસો; માત્ર ચુકવણીના ફોટા પર વિશ્વાસ ન કરો.
